Brad Sugars has been an entrepreneur since the age of 15. It was at this point that he realized that he could avoid going outside in the cold to deliver his paper route, if he hired his friends to do the work for him. He could still make money from the warm comfort of his own home, and his friends were happy to be making some spending money. This idea is one he would hold onto for the rest of his life.
Foreshadowing his future interests, at the age of 16 Brad Sugars invested $495 of his own money to attend his first business seminar. He knew that he was interested in business principles, and he wanted at a very early age to learn from the best.
While in college studying to receive an accounting degree, Brad Sugars realized he had enough free time to try his hand at several business ventures. He dabbled in some manufacturer to wholesale sales, a ladies apparel line, and his most successful business at that time a one stop photocopy shop along the lines of a modern day Kinkos.
In 1993, at the age of 22, Brad Sugars teamed up with fellow entrepreneur and author, Robert Kiyosaki, to teach marketing and business development strategies to Kiyosaki’s students in Hawaii. It was the success of this venture which led to the creation of Action International in Brisbane, Australia.
Within 4 years, Brad realized that he had a solid business model which could be franchised across the globe. His business grew by leaps and bounds, and by the age of 26, Brad Sugars officially retired from actively managing his company to focus on his family having accomplished his financial goals.
Brad Sugars stayed in contact with his business over the years and in 2006, he decided to return as the CEO. He implemented several fundamental changes to the company in order to better align the business with the needs of his coaches and customer base. First, after intensive discussions and focus groups, the decision was made to rebrand the company with a new name. The company name Action International was changed to ActionCOACH.
The second major change, which impacted Brad Sugars more on a personal than professional level, was the decision to move the company headquarters from Brisbane, Australia to Las Vegas, Nevada. This move would allow the corporate office to better serve its franchisees during normal operating hours. The lower cost structure and ability to host large international conferences nearby were additional factors that influenced the move.
As of today Brad Sugars has authored 14 books which cover a broad range of business topics published by McGraw Hill. He is a regular contributor to Entrepreneur magazine. The ActionCOACH franchise is in 26 countries with over 1,000 business coaches.
